Watch Battery Replacement Phoenix
Learn about Watch Battery Replacement
Changing a watch battery takes a few minutes. Doing it properly takes a little longer, and the difference is the part most people never see.
Opening a watch case breaks the seal that keeps water and dust out of the movement. Snapping the back on and handing it over means that seal is now whatever it happens to be — and on a watch that has been opened a few times over the years, that is often not much. We inspect the gasket, replace it where it has perished or flattened, reseal the case, and pressure test it so the water resistance the watch was built with is actually still there.
What we do
- Open the case using the correct tool for its type — screw-down backs, snap backs and screw-in cases each need different handling, and the wrong tool leaves marks
- Fit a fresh battery of the correct specification
- Inspect the case gasket and replace it where needed
- Reseal and pressure test the case
- Clean the case and crystal, and confirm the watch is running before it goes back to you
We handle all watch brands, including vintage pieces, and can source specialty cells where a watch takes something uncommon.
Things worth knowing
A new battery that dies quickly is not a bad battery. If a fresh cell lasts weeks instead of years, the movement is drawing more current than it should, usually because it needs cleaning or a component is failing. Replacing the battery again will not fix it. That is a watch repair conversation.
Do not leave a dead battery in the watch. Cells can leak, and the corrosion damages the movement from the inside out. If a watch has been sitting stopped in a drawer for a year or two, bring it in rather than assuming it is fine.
Water resistance is not permanent. Gaskets are rubber. They compress, dry out and perish with heat and age, and Phoenix summers are not kind to them. A watch rated for swimming when new may not be after a decade, whatever the caseback still says. Pressure testing after a battery change is how you find out before the pool does.
Most battery changes are done while you wait. Book an appointment or bring it in.
