    Jewelry Engraving Phoenix

Quantum Qarat is proud to offer the following jewelry services:

    Learn about Jewelry Engraving

Engraving is the least expensive thing you can do to a piece of jewelry and often the thing that matters most afterwards. A date inside a band. A name on the back of a locket. Four words nobody else will ever read. It costs very little, and it is the reason a ring becomes specifically yours rather than simply a ring.

    Hand engraving and machine engraving

Machine engraving is cut by a rotary or diamond-drag tool following a digital path. It is precise, consistent, well suited to block and script lettering, and the right choice for most inscriptions — clean, legible and economical.

Hand engraving is cut with a graver held and driven by a person. The line varies in depth and width in a way a machine’s does not, which is exactly why it looks the way it does. It suits monograms, decorative work, period-appropriate lettering on antique pieces, and anything where the mark itself is meant to be part of the design. It takes longer and costs more, and on the right piece it is worth it.

We will tell you honestly which one suits your piece. On a narrow wedding band with a short date, machine engraving is the sensible answer and we will not upsell you.

    What can be engraved

    • Inside and outside ring bands — dates, names, initials, coordinates, short phrases
    • Pendants, lockets and the backs of medallions
    • Watch casebacks, handled with care where a case is water resistant
    • Bracelets, ID plates and cuffs
    • Baby and christening gifts, and milestone pieces

    Practical limits worth knowing

Space is the real constraint. A narrow band holds fewer characters than people expect — script takes more room than block lettering, and legibility falls away quickly as you compress. We will tell you what will actually fit before we cut it rather than afterwards.

Hardness matters too. Platinum and harder alloys engrave differently from softer golds, and titanium, tungsten and ceramic are limited to laser marking or cannot be engraved at all. Some plated finishes can be cut through by engraving, which affects the result.

And it is worth thinking about permanence. Engraving can sometimes be removed by polishing, but only by taking metal away — on a thin band there may not be enough to spare. Deep engraving on an already-worn shank can also weaken it, which is a repair conversation first.

Bring the piece and the wording, and we will show you how it will sit before anything is cut. Book an appointment.
